You can then kill them by doing a ps to see their process id and kill them using kill pid or, if you don't care about other instances of the program, killall vi. You could also launch System Preferences dialog by clicking the Launchpad icon in the dock and then clicking System Properties icon. Typing System Preferences in the Spotlight search box is another option to open System preferences.
